Insurance

Most major insurances accepted, including BlueCross BlueShield, Anthem, UnitedHealthcare, UMC, UMR, Cigna and Aetna. Which plans a counselor takes varies from counselor to counselor — each counselor's page lists theirs, or just ask when you call.

What you pay also depends on your specific plan, so it's worth checking your outpatient mental health benefit with your insurer.

We also see clients who prefer to pay privately.

When you call, you'll reach a voicemail. We don't have front-office staff, and your counselor is in session. Leave your name and number and we'll call you back.

That first call is short. We'll ask a little about what's bringing you in, talk about which counselor might fit, and answer questions about insurance and scheduling. Some counselors offer a free 15-minute consultation first if you'd rather talk before committing.

Then we find a time. Sessions are in person at our Old North Knoxville office, or online.

Trauma Counseling

Some counselors here are trained in modalities that address trauma and PTSD, like EMDR. Some use Cognitive Processing Therapy, one of the most established treatments for PTSD. Some also offer Deep Brain Reorienting.

Which approaches a counselor uses varies from counselor to counselor — each counselor's page lists theirs.

How DBR differs from somatic therapy. Somatic therapies are body-focused approaches that work mainly with physical sensations. Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR) is a different method. It starts deeper, following the brain’s first split-second reaction to a threat: attention snapping toward it, a flash of tension around the eyes, forehead or back of the neck, then the shock and the feeling that comes after. DBR pays close attention to what the body feels along the way, so some people looking for somatic therapy find it a good fit. At our Knoxville office, Jacob Ramsey and Alexis Castle offer DBR.

Faith Integration

Some people want their faith to be a part of their counseling and so they may look for Christian Counseling, or maybe just counselors that share their faith. Some don't.

If you want it there, discuss with your counselor how you would like your faith to show up in your work together.

You don't have to be a Christian to come here, and you don't have to explain where you are with your faith either. People come in the middle of doubt as often as in the middle of belief.

Look at the counselor’s pages to learn more.
